Lagertha Will Discover Her Sexuality in Season 3

Katheryn Winnick & Alexander Ludwig Discuss Vikings:

Katheryn Winnick stars as Lagertha and Alexander Ludwig stars as her son Bjorn in History Channel's VikingsIt is a long wait until Season 3 of History Channel’s Vikings, but luckily Katheryn Winnick (who plays Lagertha) was happy to chat about the upcoming season at San Diego Comic Con this year to TV Fanatic. She is eager to discuss the fact that Lagertha will certainly grow in Season 3:

Lagertha goes through a major change in Season 2 and even more in Season 3 and she in now in a position of power. She … has a lot more responsibilities. She’s come into her own in Season 2. I feel, [now that] we’re half way through Season 3, I feel like her dynamic will change. We’ll see her in a different light. She discovers … I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say this … her sexuality.

Katheryn also points out that while many fans love the strong shield maiden aspect of Lagertha, it is, in fact, her challenges and vulnerabilities that makes her character so popular.

TV Fanatic then asks Alexander Ludwig (who plays Ragnar’s son, Bjorn) about how, historically, the story of the vikings eventually shifts from being Ragnar’s (played by Travis Fimmel in the TV series) story, to his son’s story. Alexander had this to say:

Michael [Hirst] is an exceptional writer and I really leave that up to him. It’s so great because I don’t have to try to be anything, you just read these great scripts and he’s already implemented that slowly in the third season … He was a boy in the second season and I really tried to play that …  and now, in Season 3, he’s a man. You see him learning and taking after his father.

It seems that while Season 2 was Lagertha’s season for coming into her own, Season 3 is the time for Bjorn to blossom.

The two Vikings stars have plenty more to say about the show and the upcoming Season 3 in the video below:
