Lagertha

Lagertha is the first wife of Ragnar Lothbrok. She is shield maiden as well as a dedicated mother to Bjorn and Gyda. Lagertha is portrayed by Canadian born actress Katheryn Winnick, who is also known for her fighting skills, having trained in martial arts from the age of seven.

In Season 1 we find Lagertha fighting alongside her husband, Ragnar, as he travels West into uncharted territory. She not only has the dangerous raids to contend with, but a plague that claims her daughter, Gyda, and a husband that finds a mistress that can bear him the sons it appears Lagertha cannot.

Due to Ragnar’s infidelity, Season 2 finds Lagertha leaving Kattegat and finding a new husband in Earl Sigvard. But this is not a marriage that is destined to last long either and after Lagertha kills him, she is made the Earl of Hedeby. Although she prefers to go by the name Earl Ingstad when trying to fool her ex husband, Ragnar. As Season 2 closes, we find Lagertha joined once again with Ragnar – but only as an ally.
